Student Reports and Parent's Evenings
Understanding student reports
The report will reflect upon the learning that has taken place over the past term and will give you a clear picture of the following:
Headings on the report: |
Explanation: |
Attitude to learning |
Were they focussed? Did they try their best? Did they demonstrate good behaviour in lessons? |
Contribution to lessons |
Did they get involved and answer questions in lessons? Did they take part in discussions? Were they engaged in the learning? |
Homework |
Did they complete all the homework? Was this completed on time? How was the quality of the work submitted? |
For each of these headings, we will use one of the following words:
Excellent |
This is outstanding and exemplary |
Good |
This is above average |
Satisfactory |
This is average and could be better |
Unsatisfactory |
This is below average and is an area to improve |
Assessment, behaviour and effort data will be formally collected at 3 key points;
Assessment Point 1 – Autumn term
Assessment Point 2 – Spring term
Assessment Point 3 - Summer term
Our KS3 Assessment builds on the KS2 National Curriculum, allows for progression through the KS3 National Curriculum and prepares students for the KS4 curriculum. We set aspirational targets based on prior attainment (KS2 SATs and/or Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) which is a diagnostic assessment that is designed to help students and their teachers understand how they learn and what their academic potential might be. It assesses how students think in areas that are known to make a difference to learning). Students will work towards this target during the year. The targets are for each year and the work will be more challenging as students move from Year 7 to Year 9.
All our students' school reports are available to view by parents via EduLink One This new system ensures each parent has an electronic copy of their child’s reports, accessible whenever needed and to ensure we are conforming to GDPR regulations.
In response to parent and student feedback, we have also changed the way we grade students at KS3. Instead of using words such as ‘emerging’ and ‘accomplished’ we now use percentages to indicate how children have performed in each subject, each term. We know progress is not linear and may go up and down depending on the topic covered that term, so we include an average grade per subject, so parents can see how their child has performed compared to the rest of the year group as well as their aspirational target grade.
At the top of the reports we include children's reading age, attendance and punctuality to date as well as the number of praise points the child has received that term. Praise points are issued each session for those students who display excellent behaviour and attitude in lessons, students will receive rewards later in the term as they accumulate points. The ‘behaviour points’ indicate the number of times a child has not followed the school rules.
At KS4 your child will be starting their GCSE courses and the current grade will be based on recent assessments in class.

Parent's Evenings
Throughout the year there are opportunities to meet with your son/daughter's form tutor and with subject staff, as well as specially arranged evenings to discuss exam options and understand more about how to support students with their studies.
Parent's evenings usually take place between 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm. We have an online booking system for appointments and you will be advised when bookings are open.
