Design Technology

At Kempston Academy we recognise the importance of Design & Technology and the role it has to play in today’s rapidly changing world. Creative thinking encourages pupils to make positive changes to their quality of life. The subject encourages pupils to become autonomous and ambitious problem solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. It enables them to identify needs and opportunities and to respond by developing ideas for inclusive design eventually leading them into making high quality products.

Through their understanding of Design & Technology they combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social, moral and spiritual issues, inclusive and accessible design for all, environmental issues, smart materials, functional and industrial practices. We allow students to evaluate and reflect on their design ideas as well as looking at the work of others including design product history and past/present designers and their impact. Design technology helps and supports students to grow and succeed helping them become informed consumers and innovators.
