Reading and Literacy
Form Time Reading
All year groups have class sets of books which can be read together or individually. Students are encouraged to read at every opportunity and together, one form time a week.
Literacy
Students in Years 7 and 8 have 1 hour a fortnight of Literacy during which time they engage in reading and in developing vocabulary and grammar through the use of Bedrock, a digital literacy platform. Students have access to the Bedrock application both in and out of school https://app.bedrocklearning.org/
In Year 9 students also take one hour of reading a fortnight and this is combined with oracy.
Reading across the curriculum
For each subject a pathway of books through the curriculum has been created. These include both fiction and non-fiction and support a wider understanding of the subject area.
Subject curriculum overview documents for KS3 and KS4, show how reading is integrated into lessons.
