Kempston Academy

Good attendance is essential if students are to take full advantage of school and gain the appropriate skills, which will equip them for life. We aim to achieve good attendance by operating an attendance policy within which students, staff, parents and the Education Welfare service can work in partnership. The school will monitor attendance and ensure quick and early intervention if a problem has been identified.

On those occasions when a student is unwell and unable to come to school, it is vital that parents/carers make contact with the academy before 8.45 in the morning on the first day of absence.

The academy is committed to working with parents/carers and students to ensure that high levels of attendance are achieved.

Irregular attendance can: • disrupt continuity of learning • undermine educational progress • lead to under achievement and low attainment • lead to the involvement of the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) • lead to prosecution.

Our attendance and welfare officer is Mrs S Wisson and she can be contacted via KA-attendance-studentsupport@kempstonacademy.co.uk.

Our attendance policy can be found here.

Term Time Holidays

Holidays in term time are not permitted and will not be authorised.

Punctuality is equally important both in terms of arriving at school and being on time for lessons.

Students should be on site for registration for 8.25 a.m. Any students arriving after this time will be marked as late. Where clubs or other activities are being held before school, the gates will be opened earlier and a member of staff  will register students as they arrive.

Signing In/Out

If you must leave school during the day for any reason, then please bring a note in your planner from your parents/carers in advance of the date. If special circumstances arise during the day that require you to go home, arrangements must be agreed with your Tutor / Head of Year / or Main Reception. You must sign out at Reception and show your note from home, countersigned by staff. If you return to school later on the same day, then you must sign in again at Reception.

Under no circumstances are you allowed to leave the academy site without permission.
