Attendance

Attendance
Good attendance is essential if students are to take full advantage of school and gain the appropriate skills, which will equip them for life. We aim to achieve good attendance by operating an attendance policy within which students, staff, parents, and the Education Welfare Service can work in partnership. The school will monitor attendance and ensure quick and early intervention if a problem has been identified. We are committed to working with parents/carers and students to ensure that high levels of attendance are achieved.
Reporting Pupil Absence
On those occasions when a student is unwell and unable to come to school, it is vital that parents/carers make contact before 8:20 am on the first day of absence.
Studybugs
Kempston Academy uses a secure, and efficient system called Studybugs for reporting all pupil absences due to illness.
-
Studybugs is now the primary method for reporting illness-related absence. Please ensure you have downloaded the free Studybugs app or registered on their website located here https://studybugs.com/

Term Time Holidays
Holidays in term time are not permitted and will not be authorised.
Punctuality
Punctuality is equally important both in terms of arriving at school and being on time for lessons.
Students should be on site for registration from 8.20am, with registers closing at 9.15am. Any students arriving after this time will be marked as late and may be coded an unauthorised absence. Where clubs or other activities are being held before school, the gates will be opened earlier and a member of staff will register students as they arrive.
Signing In/Out
If pupils leave school during the day for any reason, a note is required from parents/carers in advance of the date along with notification via email. If special circumstances arise during the day that require pupils to leave, arrangements must be agreed with Tutor / Head of Year / or main reception. Pupils must sign out at reception and show the note from home, countersigned by staff. If pupils return to school later on the same day, then they must sign in again at reception.
Under no circumstances are pupils permitted to leave the academy site without permission.
